For years, traditional Italian espresso has been associated with an extremely dark roast: powerful, smoky and often bitter. Some people mistake that bitterness for strength or authenticity.

Revelation is our medium-roast speciality Italian espresso blend. It respects the body, richness and intensity expected from espresso while avoiding the harshness created when good coffee is roasted too aggressively.

The gap between Italian espresso and speciality coffee

Traditional Italian espresso and modern speciality coffee are too often treated as separate worlds.

At one extreme, mass-market Italian espresso is frequently roasted so dark that the natural sweetness and character of the coffee are lost. At the other, modern speciality coffee can concentrate on very light, fruit-led roasts that do not provide the body, balance and familiarity many espresso drinkers want.

This gap is why Brew Garden exists. We believe the two traditions belong together.

Revelation combines the body, balance and ritual of Italian espresso with the careful sourcing and precise roasting expected from speciality coffee. It is not an imitation of traditional dark-roasted espresso; it is our attempt to improve it.

Darker does not always mean better

Roasting coffee develops its sweetness, body and aroma. However, if the roast is pushed too far, the character of the coffee can become overwhelmed by burnt, smoky flavours.

Instead of tasting the quality of the beans, every cup begins to taste primarily of the roast.

That may produce an immediately powerful espresso, but it can also leave an unpleasant bitterness—particularly when the coffee is drunk without sugar.

Our approach is different. We roast Revelation to a medium level, allowing the coffee’s natural sweetness and chocolate-led character to remain present.

Full-bodied espresso without excessive bitterness

Revelation is made entirely from Arabica coffee and selected to produce a balanced, dependable espresso.

Its flavour profile includes dark chocolate, roasted pecan, cocoa and mild honey sweetness.

The result is full-bodied enough to stand up in a flat white, cappuccino or latte, but clean and balanced enough to drink as a straight espresso.

It is unmistakably Italian in character—rich, structured and satisfying—but treated with the greater precision expected from modern speciality coffee.

Why freshness matters as much as roasting

Even properly roasted coffee will gradually lose aroma and flavour when repeatedly exposed to air, light, heat and moisture.

That is why Revelation is available in our reusable 200g coffee tin. The tin offers a practical way to keep the coffee better protected between brews while also looking at home beside a serious espresso machine.

Close the lid firmly after each use and keep the tin somewhere cool and dry. For the best result, choose whole beans and grind only what you need immediately before brewing.
